Jorge Martin achieved the best time in the first free practice of the Malaysian MotoGP Grand Prix, lapping in 1’59″513. The Spanish rider preceded the Gresini of Alex Marquez (+0″049) and the Pramac of teammate Johann Zarco (+0″401).
The two Yamahas of Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo did well, fourth and fifth respectively. Luca Marini’s Vr46 is sixth. Fifteenth time for Francesco Bagnaia’s Ducati.
