Minnesota Vikings Lose to Chicago Bears in Disjointed Monday Night Game

Summary

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Vikings couldn’t shake off a four-interception night from quarterback Joshua Dobbs, losing 12-10 to the Chicago Bears in a disjointed Monday night game, to say the least.

The Bears (4-8) came close to leaving US Bank Stadium with a feeling of failure. This is particularly true for their young quarterback Justin Fields, who was the victim of two fumbles recovered by the Vikings (6-6) late in the fourth quarter.

Dobbs had done a tremendous job since joining his new team three weeks ago following an injury to Kirk Cousins.

This time, he had a mostly tough night, with Minnesota down to three points on the board midway through the fourth quarter.

The 28-year-old quarterback temporarily found his bearings and made people forget his setbacks while the pressure was at its peak.

Dobbs’ pass to tight end TJ Hockenson in the end zone with 5:54 left in the duel was synonymous with the first touchdown of the game, and also the first lead for the home team, which had trailed back 3-0, then 9-3 until then.

For a few minutes, Vikings supporters believed that their favorites had had a narrow escape against the club ranked last in their division, the North of the Nationale.

But Kevin O’Connell’s squad instead fell back to the .500 mark, a half-game better than the Green Bay Packers (5-6), who benefited from a bye week earlier in the calendar.

At the conclusion of week 12, the Vikings are in seventh place in the National standings, in which the fight is much less fierce than in the American, in the middle of the pack.

Fields recovers just in time

The Bears would not be discouraged, and putting his two blunders behind him, Fields orchestrated an offensive drive leading to Cairo Santos’ game-winning 30-yard field goal with ten seconds on the scoreboard.

A long aerial play by Fields to his favorite target DJ Moore good for 36 yards took Chicago to the Minnesota 13 line with 66 seconds on the clock.

Santos then confirmed the victory for the Illinois team with his fourth precision kick of the match. He was impeccable after failing to do the job during his team’s first climb.

Two of the Bears’ four victories this season were obtained on an opposing lawn, after that against the Washington Commanders on October 5.

Fields therefore signs a first victory in three games since his return from injury. The Bears quarterback suffered an injury to his right thumb on October 22 during a 30-12 Bears victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft had 217 yards passing, along with 59 yards rushing.

Star wideout Justin Jefferson was not in uniform for the Vikes, having now been out seven games since injuring his right thigh.

Jefferson’s next opportunity to return to action will be Dec. 10, as the Vikings have a bye week in Week 13.

The Bears have a break until Sunday, December 10, when they host Detroit.
