Milan-PSG 2-1, the report cards: Leao roars again. Donnarumma avoids a worse deficit

MILAN (report cards by Gaetano Mocciaro)

Maignan 6.5 – He can’t do anything about Skriniar but otherwise he’s careful, even instilling a certain fear in his compatriot Mbappe.

Calabria 7 – In the first leg Pioli preferred Kalulu to counter Mbappe. This time it’s up to him and he manages to do it very well, apart from a few inaccuracies which, fortunately for him, have no consequences.

Tomori 7 – He is currently the fittest player in the department and he proves it once again this evening by keeping Kolo Muani at bay, playing early and suffering little.

Thiaw 7 – A decided step forward for the German too, after some horror performances. On the piece, concentrated, he doesn’t let himself be surprised.

Théo Hernández 7 – Big disappointment for the Parc des Princes, he plays with a different attitude and even if he doesn’t often manage to sink, he invents a splendid cross for Giroud in the play to make it 2-1.

Loftus-Cheek 7 – You see him play and you realize how much the team missed this player. For physicality, technical qualities and experience. He uproots balls and reverses the maneuver, with him it’s another midfield. The only flaw, Skriniar was lost during the 0-1.

Musah 6.5 – He starts in the control room, then Milan changes tactical structure and the American plays all over the field, however being noticed less than his teammates. From 84′ Krunic sv.

Reijnders 7 – He rehabilitates after the bad night in Paris. First half with 100% passing accuracy, the percentage drops in the second half but overall a great performance with some enlightening suggestions.

Pulisic 5.5 – Pioli gets him back in time for the crossroads of the season and despite being one of the players with the most international experience he fails to make a difference, on the contrary. Captain America made numerous inaccuracies, perhaps too many. From 90′ Florenzi sv.

Giroud 7.5 – He is a big match animal, he demonstrated it once again with a gore from a great center forward. He is always there in decisive matches, it also happened against PSG, reminding Mbappe that he is the best scorer of all time for the French national team.

Leao 7.5 – The most talented player comes out on the most important night. Finally, one might add. He literally invented the 1-1 goal by starting the action and completing it with a masterpiece overhead kick. He keeps the Parisian defenders in constant apprehension, forcing Skriniar to receive a yellow card. The angry reaction towards the fans after his goal was avoidable. He didn’t digest the criticism after the match against Udinese, but at least it fueled him. From 85′ Okafor sv.

Coach Stefano Pioli 7.5 – He took the boos and admitted that he deserved them after the match against Udinese. He managed to turn them into applause on one of the most difficult evenings of his career. He prepared the match perfectly, the Milan spirit of the good times was seen again, the team capable of reacting to the first difficulty. Result, PSG knocked out and qualification still possible, when everything was ready to celebrate the team’s funeral in the Champions League.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (report cards by Antonino Sergi)
Donnarumma 6.5 – Deafening whistles from all over San Siro at every intervention but they respond on the pitch. If PSG only takes two it is also thanks to the national team goalkeeper, splendid interventions on Theo Hernandez and Okafor avoiding the Rossoneri’s trio.

Hakimi 5 – He returns to San Siro, he was supposed to be the protagonist but he had a headache-inducing evening. It’s an immediate mismatch with Rafa Leao, the Portuguese aims for him and misses him on every occasion. He accepts the one on one but always comes out defeated.

Skriniar 5.5 – He finds his first goal with the PSG shirt, he finds it in his old stadium as a twist of fate but it’s not enough. Good in the opponent’s penalty area, bad in his own. He was overtaken by Giroud for the Rossoneri’s second goal. From 90′ Barcola sv.

Marquinhos 6 – One of the few to get a pass even if the Parisians suffer when Milan lowers their heads and attacks, cleaner than Skriniar and also stamps the assist for his teammate.

Lucas Hernandez 6 – All in all a sufficient performance, until the yellow where he was about to lose his mind. He pushes a little to the left, but he certainly suffers less than Hakimi. 65′ Mukiele 6 – He has less to do, Milan begins to push less and less.

Zaire-Emery 5.5 – The 2006 class doesn’t shine this time, he has little space to demonstrate his qualities. Milan’s midfield works wonderfully, they find themselves chasing the Rossoneri.

Ugarte 5 – He runs a lot but does so in vain, also thanks to Milan who often forces him to chase. He has to use strong methods, he gets a yellow on Theo and is removed before risking the second. From the 60th minute Fabian Ruiz 5.5 – He doesn’t shine, he was also swallowed up in traffic.

Vitinha 6 – The only one who tries to shake up the PSG midfield which suffers throughout the match, he brings quality and it is his corner from which Skriniar’s goal comes. From the 60th minute Lee 6 – After Giroud’s goal he is the only one who tries, he hits the post late on.

Dembélé 6 – The most dangerous man of the Parisians, the only sufficiency of Luis Enrique’s attack. He gives the whole San Siro a thrill by designing a left-footed shot that hits the crossbar.

Kolo Muani 5.5 – He receives very few playable balls to make himself truly dangerous up front, he invites Mbappé to the wedding in the first half who devours the chocolate face to face with Maignan. But he never kicks. From the 60th minute Ramos 5.5 – We see too little, as the replaced teammate doesn’t receive playable balls.

Mbappé 5 – It’s not his night, but the start is encouraging. He took the first shot on goal of the evening but it went out too soon, with the result tied he then devoured a one-on-one goal with Maignan. Missed protagonist.

Luis Enrique 5 – Something different was needed, it should have been the right evening to give a strong signal to this group which lacks the opportunity. The nightmares of the evening in Newcastle return, the result is very different but the test is not. The match was also going downhill but there is a lot of dancing behind it, Leao breaks the balance and now qualification is all to be achieved.
