Memphis Receives $6.3 Million Compensation for Steven Adams’ Season-Ending Injury

Small compensation for Memphis for the serious injury that kept Steven Adams out this season. As reported by the NBA, he conceded the disabled player exception to the Grizzlies for the loss of the center, which will allow the team to take advantage of a $6.3 million exception to be paid by March 11; reports Shams Charania of The athletic.

As provided for in the collective bargaining agreement, Memphis can use this sum to strengthen itself, as long as it does so with a transfer in which it receives a player who is in the last year of his contract, or through free agency by signing a player contract for a single campaign.

The truth is that Adams’ situation is worrying. After only being able to play 42 games in the 2022-23 season, the rehabilitation he carried out on the joint did not work as expected and three weeks ago he finally underwent surgery to repair the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Such a surgery should put an end to the 30-year-old’s problems, but will cause him to miss the entire season.

If on a personal level it is a hard blow, it is felt no less by the Grizzlies, who also have Brandon Clarke injured and are still waiting for Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension to pass. Meanwhile, the defeats pile up to the point that they are last in the Western Conference at 2-9.
