Megan Rapinoe qualified for the final of the American Championship, the last match of her career

Megan Rapinoe and Seattle’s OL Reign secured their ticket to the final of the American Championship (NWSL) by beating the San Diego Wave on their home field (1-0), on the night of Sunday to Monday. Aged 38, the women’s football star will be able to finally try to win the title for what will be the last match of her career, knowing that she has already announced her retirement at the end of this season.

OL Reign won thanks to a goal from Veronica Latsko on a cross from Rose Lavelle, at the very start of the second half (47th minute) of a match that was stingy in chances and which Megan Rapinoe played in its entirety. The match was played at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego in front of 32,262 spectators, a new NWSL record (the previous one dated from 2022: 32,000 spectators for San Diego Wave – Angel City).

Already two failures in the final

During the final, scheduled for the night of next Saturday to Sunday and which will be played in the same Snapdragon Stadium, Megan Rapinoe and the OL Reign will face Gotham FC of New York who, on the night of Sunday to Monday, won on the pitch of the Portland Thorns (1-0). The American international, France Football Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2019, has already failed twice in the final of the NWSL Championship with OL Reign, beaten twice by Kansas City (1-2 in 2014, 0-1 in 2015).
