The chapter at SC Paderborn is over as surprisingly quickly as it began: Max Kruse will no longer play for the second division club. He let his teammates know this via WhatsApp. The club is still silent about the matter.

On the SC Paderborn website this Wednesday morning, Max Kruse is still listed as a striker for the second division team. But the chapter is obviously over, the 35-year-old offensive player is said to have left the club. This is what “Reviersport” reports.

The club would therefore terminate the contract of the 14-time national player promptly. There was initially no confirmation from either the eleventh in the table or Kruse, who, according to the report, has already said goodbye to his teammates.

Kruse was only signed by Paderborn in the summer after being dropped from VfL Wolfsburg a year ago. However, injuries and health problems have caused him trouble this season.

“I wouldn’t say I’m a Paderborn fan,” says Kruse

Kruse only played five times in 13 games this season and was only in the starting line-up on the first two matchdays before he was injured. After that, there were only three short missions left. He missed the last matchday against Nuremberg (1:3) due to a neck injury.

As “Reviersport” reports, he said goodbye to his teammates in the team chat on WhatsApp. His message is quoted in the report as follows: “Boys, unfortunately I didn’t see all of you yesterday: That’s why I’m taking this opportunity to say goodbye to all those I didn’t see yesterday. Unfortunately it didn’t work out the way I or the club had imagined, but that’s how it is sometimes in football! You’re a great bunch, it was a lot of fun. Definitely keep that up. I wouldn’t say I’m a Paderborn fan now, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you – especially for the cup game in Leverkusen. Everything is possible. Wish each and every one of you all the best and, as we all know, you always see each other twice in your life. Until then, all the best.”

It is not yet known whether and where Kruse will continue his career. According to information from BILD, the club didn’t know anything about Kruse’s departure on Tuesday evening.

He started his career at Werder Bremen. This was followed by stints at FC St. Pauli, SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg before returning to Bremen. After he was unable to agree on a contract extension with Werder, he went to Fenerbahce in Turkey, Union Berlin and again to Wolfsburg.
