In Olomouc, he still came out empty-handed, but he already decorated his second extra-league start with a premiership hit into the black. Striker Marcel Barinka was still sad. Vítkovice’s woes were deepened by Sparta, who won 3:1 in Ostrava.

“Of course I’m happy for the first goal, but it would be better if we won,” the 22-year-old forward told reporters after the match, whose moment came right at the start of the third period, when he equalized at 1:1. “Patrik Zdráhal drove the puck there perfectly, served it to me on a volley and I just cleared it to the stick,” he describes.

“I was hoping that the first goal would come as soon as possible so that I could kick myself. I got a chance in the second line, so I tried to repay the trust. I’m glad it worked out, but it’s a shame to lose,” he says sadly

So the coaches had to rearrange the formations, the second one with Barinka in the center did the best. ” “Zdrahy is an excellent skater. Frigo fights, he flies. It suited us, as a line we played a good match,” he nods.

“We made a new line because Peter Mueller has some kind of injury, that’s why he didn’t play. The second formation certainly showed its quality, played well.”

The people of Ostrava could not be denied their effort and combativeness, but otherwise they did not think much of it in advance. “They are good in the area in front of the goal. They have tall backs who defend well,” admits Barinka, for whom the match was rather special. He went through the youth categories in Sparta, playing there from 2014 to 2017.

I spent beautiful years in Sparta, it’s still in me

“I still remember it, of course. I spent beautiful years in Sparta, so it’s still in me. I know a few guys there, I trained with some of them in the summer, so we know each other. It was spicy for me,” admits the young man, who had a large presence in the corridors. “The whole family was here, from grandfather to parents.”

“It would take a few lucky bounces, no nice goals, pushing into the goal and getting pucks in with aggressiveness.”

He pleased his fans with a goal, but not with a win. In the end, Vítkovice lost 1:3 to the second team in the table and recorded their fourth defeat in a row. “We left our best on the ice, we fought for each other, we blocked shots, but unfortunately it’s another loss,” sad the offensive backup of the troubled Riders.

Will Vítkovice break their misery against their table neighbor?

“When things don’t go well, pucks skip and you don’t have as much confidence with your stick. It would take a few lucky rebounds, no nice goals, to press into the goal and get the pucks into it with combativeness,” says Barinka before the next home duel, which Vítkovice will play on Sunday from 4 p.m. with their table neighbor from Pilsen.
