Manchester City’s Comeback Victory Secures Top Spot in Champions League Group

Manchester City celebrates its fifth victory on matchday five of the Champions League. The “Skyblues” win the top duel against RB Leipzig 3-2 after being 2-0 down.

While Guardiola’s team made an unusually large number of mistakes in the first 45 minutes and, above all, owed a lot offensively, Leipzig put in a strong first half with Xaver Schlager and Nicolas Seiwald.

One man in particular left his mark on the game in the early stages: Lois Openda. The striker escaped from opponent Akanji in the 13th minute and kept his nerve in front of the goal – 1-0.

In the 33rd minute, Openda celebrates again: Xavi Simons serves the striker, who leaves Ruben Dias and Gvardiol standing and nets from nine meters.

Haaland initiates the turnaround

With whistles from the stands, ManCity went into the dressing room – the “Skyblues” came out of the break improved. In the 54th minute, Foden served Haaland perfectly, the Norwegian didn’t let up and shortened.

The hosts then continue to increase the number of hits and push for the equalizer. This happened in the 70th minute, and Christoph Baumgartner, who had just been substituted, couldn’t change that. Gvardiol finds Foden in the penalty area, who hits the right corner from ten meters through Klostermann’s legs.

Things get even worse for Leipzig in the final phase: Klostermann deflects a pass from Foden to Alvarez. The Joker hits from around six meters (87th).

Manchester City has 15 points and is guaranteed to win the group, Leipzig has nine points. Both teams were already in the round of 16 before the duel.
