Linebacker Shaquille Leonard Parts Ways with the Indianapolis Colts, Enters Waivers

Linebacker Shaquille Leonard will have a new team for the rest of his career since he said goodbye to the Indianapolis Colts (5-5). ‘Maniac’ announced through his social networks that his working relationship with the AFC South team has ended.

The two-time first-team All-Pro was grateful to the city of Indianapolis for welcoming him with open arms when he arrived as a rookie second-round pick out of South Carolina State. Leonard, who was at the time the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL, also wanted to bring the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Lucas Oil Stadium.

The 28-year-old will go on waivers and teams will be able to claim him according to the order established by the league. One of the teams that has a need for a linebacker with Leonard’s qualities is the Cowboys. Although they signed Rashaan Evans, the loss of Leighton Vander Esch is immense.

Leonard spent the first six seasons of his professional career with the Colts and has so far played 70 parties. In that span, the linebacker has accumulated 614 tackles, 31 passes defended, 15 sacks, 12 interceptions, 17 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.
