KRC Genk Dominates Match Against Last-Placed Team, Prepares for Top Match Against Antwerp

KRC Genk could only lose in advance against the last team in the First National.

Wouter Vrancken’s troops eagerly started the game and threatened on all sides.

You would think it was a walk in the park, but after a stupid loss of ball at Genk, Saidi could only attack Van Crombrugge. The Genk goalkeeper proved that Vrancken can count on him and parried the double attempt.

A bit of a scare for Genk, then answer with your feet.

After a Genk counterattack, Oyen put Sor alone in front of goal, who caught goalkeeper Cremer in two moments. Genk deserved the lead.

In what followed, Genk dictated the law. El Hadji, Tolu and Galarza, among others, could threaten. Wezet poked back with two good attempts from Karraoui.

Genk with the same attitude after the break. And this time the dominance was also converted into goals.

Ouattara broke the spell with a nice shot into the top corner. The death knell for the tension in the match.

That was not expected by the Genk fans: they thought it was an appropriate moment to go out with anti-Walloon chants. Referee De Keyzer stopped the match briefly.

Wezet could still be dangerous, but it was the away team that was in control. That resulted in the death blow for Wezet: Zeqiri and Bonsu Baah recorded the final score.

Genk heads to Antwerp with confidence for the top match next weekend.

Wouter Vrancken: “I am certainly satisfied. We made it easier for ourselves thanks to our attitude and our start to the match. In the first half our game was sometimes still too impure, because Visé was very low. In the second half we improved we did better and made a difference. Now we have to continue the trend of the last few weeks to Saturday (against Antwerp). It won’t be easy, but we will give everything to get the points. The artificial grass field? We had our minds set on it prepared, but you can see that the intensity is less. It sometimes seems like another sport. The chants of the supporters? The referee has a certain protocol to deal with such matters. It had nothing to do with the course of the match.
