Juninho Set to Become Special Advisor to American Owner of OL

While the managers present (Santiago Cucci, Vincent Ponsot) will soon no longer be there and there is still no sports director in the OL organization chart, above coach Fabio Grosso, John Textor is looking for trusted men to surround itself with. With this in mind, the American owner would like to appoint a special advisor, who would have fairly broad prerogatives between Brazil and Europe, and he would have chosen Juninho.

The two men spoke at length in recent days and the exchanges went very well. Textor would like the Brazilian to become one of his trusted men, in the same way that Bernard Lacombe represented for Jean-Michel Aulas.

An unprecedented status

Juninho is the club’s biggest legend after his time as a player (2001-2009). He then returned for a short mission as sports director (2019-2021) which ended with a resignation, against a backdrop of deep distensions with several other leaders (Aulas, Ponsot, Bruno Cheyrou…) and the environment of the club.

His return would take place in a different way, with a less regular presence at the club (one week per month?) but with prerogatives to intervene in its functioning or life in the locker room. Now based in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian could also take care of the Botafogo club, which belongs to the Eagle Football galaxy.
