Lokeren has a new national champion. Julie Strubbe (12) was crowned the best Belgian badminton player among the U13 youth.

The Belgian badminton championship for youth took place in Namur. Lokeren’s Julie Strubbe (12) won the gold medal in the doubles, silver in the singles and silver in the mixed doubles in the U13 category. Earlier this year, Julie won three gold medals at the provincial youth championship and silver at the provincial adult championship. Julie has been training at the Lokerse Badminton Club for 5 years, of which 4 years at the Lokerse Badminton School.

“Badminton is a very complete sport. Good technique as well as explosiveness, endurance, strategic insight and a strong mindset are essential. Julie manages to combine this. She also showed this weekend that she has a lot to offer,” explained Stein Bondroit, youth coordinator and trainer at the Lokeren Badminton Club.
