Coach Julian Nagelsmann wants to challenge – and encourage – the mix of technique and speed plus a good bit of cheekiness. But the great art of moving forward is not yet sufficiently insured.

It was not only because of this goal, but also because it was like a work of art, that Kenan Yildiz remained a topic beyond the day. This goal, curled into the German goal via the double barrier of the crossbar and post, perhaps, given its power and precision, one could say for once: made.

And with that comes the question: Couldn’t this Yildiz, 18 years old, born in Regensburg and trained in football at FC Bayern, also have worn the other jersey? That of the German national soccer team? The day before the 3-2 loss against Turkey, the national coach did not declare responsibility when he was asked about the topic of talent that could play for different nations, of which Yildiz is the most prominent example.
