A new reality in Valdinievole in the martial arts panorama: it is the newly created Judo Valdinievole sports club. Chaired by Marco Spinelli, 2nd Dan black belt, it makes use of the technical teacher Ciro Vitiello, 2nd Dan black belt, 3rd level of MGA and FISDIR (Italian Paralympic Sports Federation of Relational Intellectuals) paralympic instructor.
For the record, MGA stands for Global Self-Defense Method, a set of martial arts adapted for self-defense; the 3rd is the highest level of teaching. In Pistoia and the province, Vitiello is the only teacher to have one: he can also teach defense and disarmament techniques to the police forces.
The association, affiliated with CONI’s FIJLKAM (Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation), already has around twenty-five members, divided between agonists (junior and senior) and teenagers, children and amateurs. The training venue is at the My Club gym, in Pieve a Nievole. “We didn’t expect so many registrations – states Spinelli – and we are very happy. Among other things, to offer a complete service to our members, we made use of the collaboration of a physiotherapist and nutritionist. Not to mention that Vitiello, being a Paralympic instructor qualified to scholastic sports teaching, will soon also be able to direct a mixed course, for able-bodied and disabled people”.
“We will take part in regional and national competitions – says Vitiello – as well as studying technique and Kata. There are four weekly training sessions for adults and athletes and three for teenagers and children. For MGA personal defence, the appointment is once per week”.
Spinelli and Vitiello are joined in this adventure by the secretary Massimo Socci, the athletes advisor Marlena Ribak, the health advisor Elisabetta Tasselli and the treasurer Ilaria Michelucci.
