Jose Arnulfo Castorena Vélez Wins Gold at Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games

José Arnulfo Castorena Vélez from Jalisco continues to fill Mexico and his own sporting career with glory, after awarding this morning the first gold medal to the tricolor delegation participating in the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games.

Arnulfo, 10 times World Cup winner and who will experience his seventh Paralympic participation in Paris 2024, achieved this result in the SB2 classification 50 meter breaststroke test, with a time of 57.75, in which Marcos Zárate, also from Jalisco, added his first medal of the event by staying with third place (1:13.04). Also Mexican Cristopher Tronco took silver with 1:06.65.

With this result, Arnulfo himself opens the medal count for our country in this edition, with Mexico being the first nation to move its numbers in the medal table of this competition.

Jalisco participates in this Parapan American competition with 37 representatives, in the disciplines of para athletics, swimming, boccia, blind soccer, goalball, judo for the blind and visually impaired, powerlifting, table tennis, badminton and shooting sports.

The event will end on November 26.
