It’s an understatement to say that John Wall’s career has been at a standstill since 2019 and his departure from the Wizards. Numerous injuries and a season spent on the bench in Houston weighed down his final years. So much so that he has only played 74 matches in four years…
The last ones date from January, with the Clippers. Then he was traded to Houston, before being cut again. Since then, he has not found a team to start the 2023/2024 season. He is not discouraged, however.
“I love this sport, I still get up at 6 a.m. to train. I’m still determined to come back and I think something will happen soon,” he announces to BasketNews. “I always like the effort you put in on a daily basis. I still work and always. If I still have that hunger, that desire to be in the NBA, then I’m going to continue to follow my dream of getting back there. I just have to be patient and ready. »
An NBL jersey in his name
Visiting Australia for a few days, with the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the NBL, a team in which he owns shares, the playmaker has for the moment ruled out the idea of wearing the Australian club jersey. His priority remains the NBA.
“You never know what the future holds. I’m not going to make any promises. They surprised me because I came with my stuff, but they had shorts and a jersey for me. It was cool to wear the jersey. I’m going to get the guys to sign it and I’m going to take it home to put it in my trophy cabinet. »
The former All-Star thus shared part of the training with the players of the Australian team. “I did some drills, no matches. I didn’t want to do too much, just be there, see the guys. I wanted to see their daily life, their training compared to mine, the systems they use, things like that”.
