Jessica Pegula Makes History at WTA Finals in Cancun

Jessica Pegula became the first player to reach the final at the WTA Finals in Cancun. The American defeated US Open winner Coco Gauff 6:3, 6:1 and gave her opponent, who was ten years her junior, no chance.

It is still unclear who Pegula will face in the final: The second semi-final between the world number one Aryna Sabalenka and the Pole Iga Swiatek had to be interrupted due to rain.

At this point, Swiatek was leading 2-1 in the first set. The duel is not just about reaching the final: the winner will end the year as number one in the world rankings.

The game will continue on Sunday evening (CET), where the final was originally scheduled to take place. The WTA announced that the final was postponed to Monday evening.

The doubles match by German Laura Siegemund was also interrupted due to bad weather. The 35-year-old from Metzingen and Wera Swonarewa were behind 3:6, 1:1 against Gauff/Pegula. The continuation of this match is scheduled for Sunday (6.30 p.m./CET).
