Jannik Sinner (ATP 4) delivered another brilliant performance at the ATP Finals in Turin. After the 22-year-old reached the semi-finals without defeat, he continued his winning streak there too. The Italian defeated Daniil Medvedev (ATP 3) 6:3, 6:7 (4:7), 6:1. He has won all of the last three encounters against the Russian – most recently two final victories in Beijing and Vienna.

Sinner is in the final for the first time in only his second participation in the season-end tournament for the best 8 players of the year. Two years ago he was eliminated in the group stage at his debut.

Double fault throws Medvedev off course

Inspired by the spectators, Sinner didn’t let the unfortunate loss of the second set throw him off his game. He wasn’t able to get a break chance himself in this round. However, he fended off his opponent’s only shot. In the tiebreak, the Russian made the difference with, among other things, a remarkable stop ball.

In the deciding sentence, Medvedev took the wind out of his own sails. With a double fault – the Russian took full risk on his second serve – he gave Sinner the break to make it 0-2. The mistake visibly upset Medvedev. And he couldn’t get back on track. After almost 2:30 hours, Sinner converted his first match point to victory.

Historic mark reached

The Italian will meet either Novak Djokovic, whom he defeated in the group stage, or Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The two will play for the second final ticket in the evening. Sinner has already written history. He was the first Italian in the Open Era to reach the mark of 61 wins in one year.
