Jan-Christian Dreesen Sets Out Vision to Restore Unity and Joy at FC Bayern

München – That didn’t hurt at all! If Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern since the end of May, was worried during his first detailed appearance on public television that the moderator would ask him one or two unpleasant questions given the club’s recently turbulent history: completely unfounded.

On Sunday evening, Markus Othmer dutifully worked his way through the rich subject areas in “Blickpunkt Sport”, picking up a statement here, a quote there, but avoiding something delicate: the names Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic or Noussair Mazraoui were not mentioned in the conversation. And yet something stuck with the viewer. Not only that the East Frisian Dreesen once played defender in the Ellernfeld Stadium in Aurich and, as a fifth-grader, became not a Werder or HSV fan, but a Bayern fan.

Dreesen’s tip against predecessor Oliver Kahn: “We need more fun at work again”

The 56-year-old’s “Blickpunkt Sport” premiere was the strongest when he spoke about his arrival at the record champions in 2013: “After the final at home, there was a very special spirit in the entire club. There was cohesion and joy, and That’s exactly what I want again now.”

Last season he mainly saw individual athletes on the pitch, but not a team: “We need more fun at work again, more camaraderie, not just on the field.” He no longer had to spell out the name of his predecessor, who had failed so badly. Oliver Kahn’s ears must have been ringing too.

Tense climate under Kahn? Bayern boss Dreesen wants more again…

Jan-Christian Dreesen should bring the “Mia san mia” back to the fore at FC Bayern

The titan, with his alleged aloofness and isolation within the office, was blamed after his expulsion by Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß as the main responsible for the bad mood on Säbener Strasse. Dreesen – this much became clear during the BR appearance – is the new harmony officer at FC Bayern, and the “Mia san mia” should come more to the fore again.

Dreesen has prominent supporters for this. There were video greetings from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “You’ll do well,” Rummenigge encouraged him, “and thank you for your friendship.” A relationship of trust quickly developed back then, Dreesen remembers, and it was clear to him from the start that the alpha dogs Hoeneß and Rummenigge would not simply disappear into obscurity even without office. “I’m glad they’re still there,” said Dreesen, but admitted that some of the statements made by those in power had caused him distress. But my, that’s how it was!

Will Max Eberl come to FC Bayern? This is the status of the new sports director

It is precisely those two Bayern grandees who, together with the rest of the supervisory board, are responsible for deciding whether a sports director will be installed? Or even more specifically: Will sports director Christoph Freund receive support from Max Eberl in his mission in the near future? Dreesen remained open.

“The task of appointing a sports director is the responsibility of the supervisory board, not that of the CEO. This has not yet happened. Uli Hoeneß has already said elsewhere that there is currently no topic there. As long as no one approaches me, there is “There is no sports director either,” explained Dreesen. Doesn’t sound like a decision will be made soon for Eberl.
