NFL News today Tuesday: Jalen Hurts is close to breaking a new NFL record; What did Frank Reich say after his dismissal from the Panthers?; Maxx Crosby worries about health status, and more. Don’t miss the news from the NFL Today.

Jalen Hurts close to setting a new NFL record

QB Jalen Hurts is the favorite of many to win this season’s MVP. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback could solidify his case with a new record that he is close to setting in the coming weeks.

With 11 TDs on the ground in 11 games, Hurts is only four touchdowns away in this way from surpassing Cam Newton’s mark of 14 rushing TDsthe most in a single campaign and which he established in 2011. Last year, the quarterback achieved 13 and was one away from tying the mark.

In four seasons in the NFL, Hurts has 37 rushing TDs. If he keeps up this pace, it won’t take him long to equal or surpass Newton’s career-high 75 TDs. After all, he is only 25 years old and has an OL that is among the best in the entire NFL, if not the most dominant there is.

Do you think Jalen Hurts can break this mark in the NFL? Does he deserve the MVP this year?

Frank Reich: “the NFL is a meritocracy”

The Carolina Panthers fired HC Frank Reich on Monday, making him the shortest-serving coach in NFL history. He is also the third head coach in consecutive years not to finish the season with his new team.

Reich only lasted 11 games in charge of the franchise, surpassing the record set by the infamous HC Urban Meyer in 2021, who only lasted 13 games in charge of the Jaguars. However, he was not bitter about the decision of the owner, David Tepper:

“There’s a throbbing disappointment about not hitting the marks we needed to keep this going and try to turn it around,” Reich said. in interview with Charlotte Observer. “I hurt for the kids, the team, the coaches and the fans.”

Tepper personally approached Reich to give him the news before finding out from a third party just last Monday morning.

“I want to convey that I have nothing but positive thoughts about Mr. Tepper,” Reich said. “On a personal level, I saw a side of him that I deeply respect and care about.”

“But the NFL is a meritocracy. It is not unconditional love. I understand that from a professional standpoint, Mr. Tepper is going to have certain standards that he expects to be met. “I don’t hold a grudge against him, and my personal relationship with him was truly a highlight of this short time.”

The now former Panthers head coach said that “this is probably the final chapter of my journey in the NFL,” hinting that he will not coach at this level again, at least.

It is the second dismissal in less than a year for this coach. Last year he was released by the Colts after 74 games where he compiled a respectable 40-33-1 record. Here they were less patient, as with several members of his staff.

After Reich’s dismissal, it was announced that coaches Josh McCown and Duce Staley, QB coach and HC assistant/RB coach respectively, will not continue either.

For the second year in a row, Carolina will have to look for another head coach.

What do you think of the management of the Panthers organization in recent years? How much blame does the team owner have?

Maxx Crosby had to receive hospital treatment before playing in Week 12

DE Maxx Crosby’s health may not be anywhere near acceptable after a report was released before his game last week.

The Raiders player said he had to go to the hospital to treat “some infections” that kept him “out for several days.”

The team didn’t say anything about this, only reporting a knee injury as the reason he didn’t practice last week.

Without Crosby, it’s hard to imagine the defense competing the same. His participation, barely limited to 82% of the team’s snaps, was reflected in the scoreboard, largely dominated by the Chiefs the previous Sunday.

“I trained all year to do this, give myself the opportunity to play 17 guaranteed games and if I can go, I will go,” he said, via ESPN. “You put everything on your part. I have done my best and everyone has done their best. So I just wanted to give our team a chance and… I didn’t want to leave. [del campo]. As simple as that.”

Interim HC Antonio Pierce praised Crosby for his intent to play and his mentality to be in the game, as something the rest of the team wants to emulate for the rest of the season.

What do you think of players who decide to do this type of thing despite the risk to their health?

Haason Reddick adds fuel to the fire before game against 49ers

Tempers are heating up before what is probably the best game of week 13 NFL: Philadelphia Eagles vs San Francisco 49ers. The number one and number two in the NFC meet this weekend to decide the direction of the conference towards the playoffs, it is also the opportunity for revenge for last year’s NFC Championship.

Eagles LB Haason Reddick, who was present in the previous game, also had a hand in the play that resulted in the injury of QB Brock Purdy, who was unable to finish the game. After months of Niners players claiming that was the reason they didn’t win then, Reddick responded:

Talking is common. You know, they have to go back to The Linc [Lincoln Financial Field]. Last year there was a lot of booing, a lot of crying, a lot of ‘what ifs’, a lot of this and a lot of that. They have a chance to come back here, line up their shit and prove it again.”

The Eagles are coming off a grueling overtime game against the Bills, while the Niners played last Thursday, having a couple of extra days to get back into rhythm. They also come in healthier than Philadelphia, which is dealing with injuries to its offensive and defensive line alike. We’ll see if the game lives up to expectations.
