On Monday it got a bit fuller again at the 1. FC Köln training ground. Regular central defender Jeff Chabot was missing from the FC professionals – but only for reasons of “training management”. That means: The 25-year-old, who was in the starting line-up in all 14 competitive games this season, was allowed to switch down a gear. However, playing in the important away game on Friday evening at Darmstadt 98 (8.45 p.m., LIVE! on kicker) should not be at risk.

Christensen’s suffering finally ends

Jacob Christensen was finally there again. The midfielder had recently been absent for a longer period of time because he injured his knee in the final training session before the duel with Bayer Leverkusen (0-3) at the beginning of October. Since then, the Dane has completed rehab – and has only now been able to return to team training.

With Christensen, coach Baumgart will have another option in the center in the medium term. During the free transfer from Nordsjaelland, managing director Christian Keller praised Christensen’s “technical expertise” and “ability to direct a game during the build-up”. Qualities of the 22-year-old that Cologne could urgently use in the relegation battle. Most recently, offensive player and captain Florian Kainz had to take on the role of the building six alongside Eric Martel.

This means that almost all of the professionals in Darmstadt are once again available to Baumgart. Replacement keeper Philipp Pentke should also slowly start practicing again after he suffered a deep laceration during training a month and a half ago.
