Ignacio Buse Continues to Shine: Upsets Top Seed in Challenger 75 Tournament in Temuco

After adding two titles in one week – he won the ITF M25 Jalisco Aspiria Open and the ITF M25 de Mendoza in October 2023 -, Ignacio Buse continued working to achieve good results in the next tournaments. He is now competing in the Challenger 75 in Temuco, one of the last competitions of the year. This Tuesday he faced the Bolivian Hugo Dellien, 109th in the world, and although he started losing (he fell 6-1 in the first set), the Peruvian had the strength to turn the result around and qualify for the round of 16. His next rival will be the Brazilian Gilbert Klier.

‘Nacho’ (471st ATP) was not at all a favorite against the Bolivian number 1, but he faced this challenge with anything but fear. Of course, in the first set he could do little to keep up with his rival, who finally won 6-1. It was thought that the game was going to be a formality for the Bolivian; However, Buse woke up in the second set and began to fight on every point.

Compared to the first, in the second round the Peruvian and his rival showed a great level and had a very hard-fought set. They reached a tie break, in which Ignacio won. The third round was just as disputed, but our compatriot broke the lead to win 6-4 and advance to the next round of the tournament.

This Tuesday, ‘Nacho’ achieved, by far, the best victory of his career, after eliminating one of the candidates to win the tournament from Challenger 75 in Temuco. It is important to mention that Buse has added many points in the last championships and everything indicates that he will climb positions in the ATP Rankings. It is expected that in a few days we will see his best classification.

Ignacio Buse and his first two titles

This 2023, the 19-year-old athlete won the first two titles of his professional career. First, he was crowned at the ITF M25 in Mendoza, where he finished the tournament without giving up a set and winning his first title as a singles player. Then, he won the ITF M25 Jalisco Aspiria Open, after beating the American Victor Lilov (571°), second seed, in the final, 6-3, 7-6 in one hour and 36 minutes of play.
