Ibrahim Afellay is extremely charmed by Couhaib Driouech. The analyst sees the 21-year-old attacker regularly excel at Excelsior this season, including in the match against FC Utrecht (2-2). Driouech scored the opening goal with a great individual action. “Surely such a boy wouldn’t look out of place at AZ or Twente?”, Afellay suggests at Studio Voetbal.

Afellay wants to ‘see the 0-1 again’ after the summary of Utrecht – Excelsior. Driouech solos brilliantly along the sideline, before finishing well from a difficult angle in the far intersection.

“Not for the first time this season, right?” Afellay responds to the images. “That that boy comes up with a great action and is decisive. He has actually taken over the role of Azarkan.” Last season’s star at Excelsior has been playing for Utrecht, Sunday’s opponent and the current bottom line, since the summer.

Afellay also foresees a transfer for Driouech in the near future. “Surely a boy like that wouldn’t look out of place at AZ or Twente? He really is a boy with potential.” Presenter Sjoerd van Ramshorst agrees: “That won’t last very long, I don’t think.”

Driouech scored his third this season on Sunday, making a major contribution to the hard-fought point. Excelsior thus secured an impressive seventh place in the rankings.

The Kralingers have only won three times this season, but are still on fifteen points due to the six draws. They are breathing down their necks from city rivals Sparta, which collected eighteen points.

Driouech is currently in his third season in Rotterdam service. In 2021 he came over from sc Heeerenveen, where the wing attacker never got further than the promise team. Driouech immediately emerged as a trendsetter in the Van Donge & De Roo Stadium. So far he has played 79 games, scoring 11 times and providing 10 assists.
