Champion Hypo Tirol did the job on Sunday in its last game of the second Champions League qualifying round and defeated outsider Budva from Montenegro 3-0 (25:20, 25:14, 25:18) in Belgrade. A little later, however, it became clear that the clear victory was not enough to advance to the group phase.
Because CS Arcada Galati won a set against Olympiakos Piraeus. Therefore, the Romanian and not the Austrian champion became the best pool runner-up. For the Innsbruck team, however, this does not mean the end of the season on the international stage; it still continues in the CEV Cup.
“It was clear from the start that we were the better team. The boys were a bit tired from yesterday (defeat against Las Palmas, note), but they did their job well. We are looking forward to the CEV Cup,” said Tirol head coach Stefan Chrtiansky.
