Home Team Dominates Biathlon Competition: Sweeps Entire Podium

The entire podium was occupied by the home team. The victory was won by the representative of Sweden, Sebastian Samuelsson, who made two mistakes while shooting lying down and reached the finish line after 28 minutes and 5.8 seconds. The second was Jespers Nelins, who made one mistake in prone shooting and was 18.5 seconds behind the winner, and the third was Anton Ivashon, who, shooting without mistakes, lost 37.7 seconds to the winner.

Birkenthal made one mistake in the standing shooting and was 56.5 seconds behind the winner. Aleksandrs Patrijuks lost two minutes and 59.7 seconds to Samuelson with four errors in shooting and ranked 25th in the competition of 58 biathletes, while Edgars Mise was in 37th place with three errors in shooting, losing three minutes and 51.5 seconds to the winner.

Also for women, all the podiums in the distance of 7.5 kilometers were occupied by the home women. The victory was won by Elvīra Eberja, who finished in 23 minutes and 29.7 seconds with three shooting errors. Anna Karina Heijdenberja was second with one mistake in prone shooting, losing 14.7 seconds to the winner, and Tilda Johansson, who shot perfectly, was third, losing 17.1 seconds to Eberja. Anna Magnusone, the winner of Saturday’s competition in the shortened individual distance, was fourth, but the best of the Latvian athletes was Sandra Buliņa, who lost two minutes and 5.6 seconds to the winner with one error in prone shooting.

Elsa Bleidele took 27th place with two errors in shooting, Eberja lost three minutes and 0.7 seconds, Sanita Buliņa was 29th with five errors in shooting (+ 3:16.3), but 35th in the competition of 54 athletes with four errors in shooting – Annie Kate Sabule (+4:02.7).

It has already been reported that on Saturday in the shortened individual distance of 15 kilometers, Birkentāls took 12th place, Patrijuks – 23rd place, and in the women’s competition, Sanita Buliņa took 13th place, Sandra Buliņa – 20th place, Bleidele – 23rd place and Sabule – 31st place. The first stage of the World Cup is planned for the end of November in the Swedish city of Esteshund.
