Holger Rune Advances to Round of 16 at Paris Masters Tournament with Coach Boris Becker

Defending champion Holger Rune reached the round of 16 at the Masters tournament in Paris. The Danish world number seven defeated the Austrian Dominic Thiem 6:4, 6:2 in front of his new coach Boris Becker and remains on course for the ATP Finals in Turin (November 12th to 19th).

“It’s a tough fight. This is the last rush of the season,” Rune said on the ATP Podcast in Paris. He described the collaboration with Becker so far as “great. What we train can also be seen on the pitch. We made some changes to get back on track.”

In his first tournament with Becker, Rune recently reached the semi-finals at the ATP tournament in Basel. The 20-year-old’s big goal is the season finale in Turin, which would be the first finals participation of his career.

In the round of 16, Rune will face the German Daniel Altmaier on Thursday evening; previously, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev will fight against Stefanos Tsitsipas for a place in the quarter-finals. (aw/sid)
