Gymnastics will go to the Olympic Games this time: “A reward for our work” | Gymnastics

Noah Kuavita and Luka Van den Keybus are two of the three Belgian men who have their tickets for 2024.

“I still remember the opening ceremony of Beijing in 2008 on TV. That show, those dancers and those fireworks have always stayed with me. And now I am going to experience it myself in Paris,” Kuavita beams.

Van den Keybus dreamed of the Olympic Games as a child. “In 2014 I attended the Youth Olympic Games in China. That was a foretaste,” he says.

“Now we are here after an 8-year project in Paris. A reward for our hard work,” he says.

It will be hard work for Kuavita and Van den Keybus in the coming weeks and months. At the end of April they want to score at the European Championship in Rimini (Ita). Then they focus on the Olympic Games.

In recent years, attention has mainly focused on female gymnasts.

“Now we are reaping the fruits of our work,” says Noah Kuavita, “but most of all we want to see our sport grow in general.”

Nina Derwael has put gymnastics in our country in the spotlight. “That is very positive,” says Luka Van den Keybus.

“Whether women or men: we are raising the level of our gymnastics. And hopefully it can be even higher.”

The Belgian women have gone through a turbulent period with the dismissal of the two top coaches.

“In that respect, our worlds are fairly separate from each other,” says Van den Keybus. “We do our thing, hopefully they can start a new chapter.”
