Golf: Tiger Woods attempts another return to the circuit this week in the Bahamas

It’s an eternal beginning again. Proof for some that the Tiger Woods legend is eternal, and for others that the “Tiger” should, at the end of his strength, put away his claws. The American golf superstar is attempting a new return to the highest level after surgery on his right ankle. Tiger Woods was forced to switch to billiards after dropping out of the Augusta Masters in April, his last tournament on the circuit, with a foot still bruised from his serious car accident in February 2021.

The 47-year-old is lined up this week for “his” tournament, le Hero World Challenge, a meeting of which he is an ambassador, and which he has already chosen several times to return from injury. This competition with a somewhat unusual format takes place over four days in the Bahamas and only brings together a small number of players, 20 this year among the best on the planet. Only Patrick Cantlay (world number 5) and Xander Schauffele (world number 6) withdrew.

For his return, Tiger Woods will begin this Thursday at 11:52 a.m. local time (5:52 p.m. French time) alongside his great friend Justin Thomas. World number 1 Scottie Scheffler will start around ten minutes before in the company of reigning world match-play champion Sam Burns. But in what state will we find the “Tiger”? Tiger Woods has not won since the Zozo Championship in 2019. Last year, he was only able to compete in two tournaments before ending his season.
