Second success in a row for Torino after the victory in Lecce. Sanabria scores again, but Vlasic’s goal decides the match
For the second time in this championship Toro has two victories in a row. At the beginning of the season it happened with Genoa and Salernitana. Then came the 1-1 draw with Roma: three games without defeat, something that was never repeated. Well, on Saturday the Granata will visit Monza, with three points up for grabs which could open up rather stimulating scenarios for both the Juric gang and Palladino’s Brianza team. Very short ranking, in fact, close to the passes to Europe and the Conference League. And at Monza, last season, Juric took away four points, winning among other things at Brianteo.
Deserved victory against Sassuolo, clear from all points of view. The 3-point shot arrives halfway through the second half, with a monumental Tameze who recovers the ball, restarts and inspires Vlasic’s winning diagonal. A first half with a technical knockout, incredibly ending at 1-1, with the Granata capable of producing at least 3-4 clear scoring opportunities. Sanabria to uncork the match after 5′ (tap-in on a low center by Tameze, again him) and Thorstvedt to take advantage of the only grenade error: lightness coming out of Rodriguez, Berardi puts it in the middle, veil from Laurient and precision conclusion from the Norwegian limit.
But the new Toro (3-5-2, with two strikers as well) produces play, scoring opportunities and shows plenty of character and personality: only a small break at the start of the second half, otherwise it has always dictated the pace, thanks also to a very good physical condition. Toro’s impact was impressive, as before the goal they forced Consigli to make two important interventions: the Emilian goalkeeper placed well on Vojvoda’s header (Bellanova’s centre); literally amazing when he blocks Sanabria’s very close torpedo. The Paraguayan kicks on an assist from Ricci, who immediately afterwards has to leave the field due to a muscle problem: Vlasic comes on.
And even after Thorstvedt’s equalizer, there was only Toro: Buongiorno headed home from two metres, another miracle from Consigli; therefore Bellanova and not taking advantage of Sanabria’s inspiration from a very good position; then Zapata heads high and immediately after touches the post (low shot) to the right of Consigli; finally, Vlasic goes under-measured with his heel and always hits the black-and-green goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Juric also loses Rodriguez: defense redesigned with Zima in the middle, Tameze on the right and Buongiorno on the left; no one passes anyway.
A few seconds into the second half and Sanabria appears all alone in front of Consigli, but doesn’t find the target. A very balanced phase actually begins, with Laurient hitting the top corner on the counterattack before Vlasic’s winning blitz. In the 30th minute Zapata takes the knockout shot (he sends it wide from zero metres), the only flaw in a very generous performance, as a true leader. And the agreement with Sanabria is growing. Three very important points, says Tameze, man of the match.
