Germany ensured they qualified for the last 16 of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. That was after they beat New Zealand 3-1.
The Germany U-17 vs New Zealand U-17 match was held at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung, Wednesday (15/11/2023) evening WIB, in the continuation of Group A of the U-17 World Cup.
Germany immediately pressed from the start. Assan Ouedrago and Max Moerstedt’s efforts were aimed at goal, but did not produce anything.
Germany’s push towards New Zealand bore fruit before the end of the first half. Maximilian Hennig burst down the left and sent a cross which Paris Brunner grabbed. The ball was initially blocked by the goalkeeper, but Brunner welcomed it back into the goal.
Germany added a goal in the 60th minute. Brunner’s kick hit the post and was controlled again by his teammate. The ball went to Noah Darvich who pushed forward and sent a pass for Max Moerstedt to hit from close range.
GOAL! Germany scored the third goal in the 81st minute. Moerstedt’s header following Darvich’s pass hit the crossbar. The ball was then controlled by Bilal Yalcinkaya and passed into the goal.
New Zealand got a penalty in the 90th minute. Adam Watson stepped up as executor and successfully beat goalkeeper Max Schmitt.
No more goals were scored until the final whistle sounded. With this result, Germany ensured qualification for the knockout phase with six points from two matches.
They are two points ahead of Venezuela, while Mexico and New Zealand are respectively in positions 3-4. Mexico has one point and New Zealand is still without points.
