Gema Pallacanestro Montecatini’s home march immediately resumes: coach Del Re’s men, determined to demonstrate to their fans that the misstep against Libertas Livorno was just an accident, beat Bakery Piacenza 66-62 at the PalaTerme and go up at 12, remaining in the wake of the top of the class. Despite the fact that the two best three-point scorers in the championship are on the field (Passoni on one side and Wiltshire on the other) they score slowly: in the first quarter the hands are literally marble both teams. Even Gema after eight minutes travels with a paltry 11 percent from the field but Bakery does no better as from behind the arc he records a more than eloquent 016. At least with the clock stopped Mastrangelo is a sentence (44), but the errors under the boards they are wasted and at the end of the initial 10′ the score reads 10-10. At the seventeenth three-point shot Gema finally breaks the deadlock: the bombs from the former Korsunov and Savoldelli arrive, and given that in the Piacenza home team the errors continue to rain down on the hosts, the spa “lions” need little to get to 23-14 .

Just when it seemed that Gema could take control of the contest, the unexpected blackout arrives which catapults Piacenza back into the match: red and white maxi-partial score of 0-12 and in a flash the Bakery manages to put their noses ahead (23-26 ). Despite continuing to have some problems with offensive production, Montecatini managed to respond with a 4-1 mini-break which rebalanced the match before the long break at 27-27. The second 20′ for Gema began in a diametrically opposite way to how the match had opened: Pirani immediately found the net from behind the arc, which was quite unusual for him.

The big former Ruvo di Puglia together with Passoni drags Gema into a third quarter with 24 points scored despite the locals exhausting the foul bonus after less than four minutes. Bakery didn’t take advantage of it, continuing its bad night shooting even with the clock stopped, and sank 64-51 in the last quarter under the shots of Korsunov and Di Pizzo. Another slight relaxation exposes Gema to Piacenza’s comeback attempt: Mastroianni scores the -4 but the turnover with 5 seconds left forces the guests to definitively raise the white flag.
