French team: sprain, setback and concern for Zaire-Emery, absent for “a few weeks”

Warren Zaire-Emery will not forget his first selection for the French team. Under the gaze of his entire family who had made the trip, this Saturday in Nice against Gibraltar (14-0), the Parisian prodigy became, at 17 years 8 months and 10 days, the youngest French international since 1914. Holder in midfield, he spiced up the event a little more by scoring his very first goal among the big boys in the 16th minute, at the conclusion of a good cross from Kingsley Coman. Unfortunately, he was injured in the same action, tackled on his right ankle by Ethan Santos, and had to be replaced by Youssouf Fofana.

The examinations taken in the evening reassured that there was no fracture but he is suffering from a major sprain which will keep him away from the field for “several weeks”, according to Didier Deschamps. This is a difficult first day for Titi who has been unable to resist anything since the start of the season.

On Instagram, this Sunday lunchtime, he wrote: “Frustrated to have had to leave the field so quickly but also proud and honored to have celebrated my first selection with a goal. Get to work to get back as soon as possible. »

Already packaged for Monaco and Newcastle

At the moment, the duration of his unavailability is not clearly established. One thing is certain, he will miss the matches against Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday November 24 and Newcastle in the Champions League on Tuesday November 28. We shouldn’t see him, either, during the trip to Le Havre on Sunday December 3. A hard blow for Luis Enrique who made him a centerpiece of his team.

The native of Montreuil left the gathering to return to Poissy during the day and will now begin his treatment protocol. As we write these lines, it is not excluded that he could play in competition again by the end of the year even if Paris expects to have to do without him for a little while. It will depend, above all, on how his body reacts in the coming days as his ankle has swollen significantly. As a youngster, Warren Zaire-Emery was mostly spared from injuries, which should facilitate his recovery process.

The memory of Mbappé in 2020

PSG will be very attentive to the health of its player who has played a lot between club matches and the selection. We particularly remember Kylian Mbappé who, after a nasty tackle from Stéphanois Loïc Perrin in the Coupe de France final, on July 24, 2020, also suffered from a major sprain.

The star striker had worked hard to replay half an hour, two and a half weeks later, against Atalanta Bergamo (2-1), in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, during Final 8. A time of recovery which seemed very short at the time, and which did not result in his best performances afterwards. As is often the case in such cases, caution is essential.
