San Francisco (dpa) – Victor Wembanyama was annoyed. But this time the basketball super talent wasn’t concerned with the next defeat of his San Antonio Spurs in the North American professional league NBA, but rather with what he saw as an unfortunate mistake.
The 19-year-old Frenchman’s jersey didn’t say “Wembanyama” as usual, but rather “Wembanyana”. Small mistake, big impact. “I don’t know if anyone was fired, but the Spurs did their job and checked my name. I don’t know. It’s a real shame,” Wembanyama raged after his Spurs’ 112-118 defeat, according to journalist Tom Orsborn Golden State Warriors.
The Spurs around the highly traded talent have recently lost eleven NBA games in a row. Things aren’t really going well for the Frenchman individually either. Wembanyama averages 19 points and 9.4 rebounds, but hits his shots below average. Only 43 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from the three-point line bear witness to the difficult start.
Wembanyama is considered the biggest basketball promise since LeBron James, who came to the NBA in 2003 and has shaped it ever since.
