Franz Wagner Leads Orlando Magic to Seventh Consecutive NBA Win

With his best performance of the season, world champion Franz Wagner led the Orlando Magic to their seventh win in a row in the NBA. In the 130:117 win against the Charlotte Hornets, the Berliner scored 30 points and was the top scorer of the evening together with Cole Anthony. Wagner’s older brother Moritz recorded eleven points and seven rebounds.

The last time the club achieved such a successful streak in the North American Basketball League was from December 23, 2010 to January 8, 2011. “That’s really cool for this group,” said Franz Wagner. “As the coach always says: It starts with work. We want to keep it going.” But Orlando has to “make sure we continue to improve as a team over the course of the season.”

The team from Florida hasn’t lost since mid-November, and with a 12:5 record, Orlando is close behind leaders Boston Celtics (13:4) in the East. On Friday there was a celebrated victory over the record champions, with Moritz Wagner excelling with 27 points at 113:96.

On Wednesday and Friday we continue with two home games against the Washington Wizards (2:14), bottom of the league. The chances of the series continuing in Orlando are not bad.

National team captain Dennis Schröder lost with the Toronto Raptors 102:105 at the Cleveland Cavaliers. The point guard scored 15 points for the Canadians, who are in eleventh place in the East with eight wins and nine losses.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks achieved their biggest comeback of the season so far. Despite a 26-point deficit, the team led by star player Giannis Antetokounmpo won 108:102 against the Portland Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard, traded to the Bucks in September after eleven years with the Trail Blazers, scored 31 points in his first reunion with his old club. Antetokounmpo made 33.
