Argentine football received sad news yesterday. Federico Sacchi died, at the age of 87, in his native Rosario. During the fifties and sixties, the defender had become a glory for soccer in our country for his elegant and fine style of play, which had little to do with the position in which he played.
Despite having only played professionally for a decade, Sacchi had successful stints at Newell’s, Racing and Bocawhere he managed to conquer the hearts of many fans, as could be the case of Guillermo Francella.
From “De Carne Somos”, where he was shown with a muscular woman from the Academy, to the Oscar winner for best foreign film, “The Secret in Their Eyes”, the acclaimed actor carries his passion for Racing both inside and outside the studios. . And, like Viggo Mortensen, in every interview he gives he leaves an anecdote that has to do with his club.
He inherited that feeling from his father, Ricardo Héctor, who worked at the Avellaneda club as a gym teacher.
As a good fan that he is, Guillermo has numerous memories and anecdotes with Racing. And, probably, one of the funniest was the one he experienced at the age of 8 with Sacchi, his childhood idol.
Some time ago, in an interview with TNT Sports, the actor revealed a strange exchange he had with the player, to try to retain the footballer when he found out that he had decided to leave Racing to go to Boca.
“When I was a boy my idol was Federico Sacchi. “He was the best defender I had ever seen in my life.”.
“I remember when he went to Boca and I thought I was dying, so I looked in the directory for Federico Sacchi’s phone number. I called one and he didn’t answer me. I called the other and asked him: “‘You are Sacchi, how are you doing? Is it true that he is leaving Racing?’ And he answers me: ‘If I go’and I ask: ‘Why is he going to leave? What can we do to make him stay?’ And I said: ‘I don’t know, maybe they can make a collection’”.
“My dad works in Racing so, when he came back, I told him: ‘Look dad, the Sacchi thing has been resolved’. ‘How was Sacchi resolved?’, my dad told me that he came from Racing. And I tell him: ‘We have to make a collection. I was talking to Sacchi’“.
“ ‘Who did you talk to? Who gave you the phone?’ ‘I found it in the guide’, I told. And he asked me: ‘How in the guide? Who is this man?’. So he went to the club and said: ‘My son is talking to Sacchi. What is the number?’. ‘This is not the number’they told them”.
“Of course, the number was different. The one who didn’t attend to me. He gave me a blackmail. I called him every day until one moment I said: ‘How much longer?’. ‘But I don’t get the collection he told me…’”.
