France U17 World Cup Team Clears Eligibility Controversy Ahead of Quarter-Final Match

The France team, which plays the quarter-final of the U17 World Cup on Saturday against Uzbekistan (kick-off at 9:30 a.m. on the L’Équipe channel), seems free of an important concern. The Senegalese Federation announced Friday, via a press release, that it was not maintaining its appeal denouncing the participation in the event, under the blue jersey, of Yanis Issoufou.

The latter, who participated in the qualifications under the jersey of Niger, should not have been eligible for this final phase with another nation. But, to be admissible, the appeal should have been filed five days before the start of the competition, FIFA recalled in a letter addressed to the Senegalese, opponents of the Blues in the round of 16, Wednesday (0-0, 3-5 to tab). “In view of all this, the FSF decides to renounce the referral today and asks FIFA to take note of it,” announces the Senegalese Federation.
