Fos Provence Basket Emerges Victorious in Close Match Against Aix Maurienne

Fos Provence Basket found its momentum after a victory against Poitiers last week. The basketball players consolidate their progress with another success against Aix Maurienne this evening (71-62) at home.

Tonight, they were more aggressive and skillful, well done to them, they had to win this match at home” declares Tim Eboh, Aix Maurienne player. Fos needed this victory to get its head above water and continue in a positive spirit. Despite a mixed match in four stages: a complicated start, a relaunch in the game at second quarter, a scare in the third and a domination to close the match, the Byers lived up to this victory.

Q1 :

The Sports Hall is supported by the public for the start of the match who are on their feet to applaud until the first basket. It was after 1 minute of play that Damien Bouquet opened the scoring with a three-point shot. The first 10 minutes of the game were seesaws with some great collective actions but a defense that was sometimes too open, offering opportunities to the opponents. The Byers are aggressive in attack but unfortunately at the moment, the precision is not there with missed open shots. The first quarter ends with a very close score which reflects the match: 14/17.

Q2:

The second quarter took a while to start with a score that remained low (20/20 after 2 minutes of play – 22/24 at 3:30 minutes of play). The Byers want to play quickly, but this strategy does not work for them. Maxime Galin scores a three-point shot which brings the team to one point (25/26) and from there, something clicks within the team. The number 9 continues with two free throws, then a decisive pass which allows us to take the advantage four minutes before the end of the first period (29/26). The coach of the Aix Maurienne team takes a time out, but that is not enough to revive the opponents. The Byers show good defense which forces the opponent to lose balls. These errors allowed Fos to widen a gap of 10 points in just 2 minutes with 2 free throws from Maxime Galin, a three-point shot from Terry Smith + an and one on the following action from Vincent Vent. Fos ignites on the field and takes the lead with +11 (37/26). The halftime score is 39-29. For the moment the Fosséens are doing the job!

Q3:

The third quarter was more difficult for the Byers who finished with only a one point lead, 53/52 at the buzzer. The three-point shot from the first action of Aix Maurienne hurts, but the Fosséens are much more calm in their game. Despite another three-point shot conceded, they respond with two two-point shots and a three-point shot by Steve Ho You Fat. For their part, the opponents have an impressive three-point skill and go back to 46/40. There are only 3 minutes left and only 3 points separate the two teams. Steeve Ho You Fat is skillful this evening and scores a very nice three-point shot from 1 meter from the line. The Fosséens are not in the same dynamic and suffer this end of the quarter which leaves only one choice for the team: to recover and ensure the last 10 minutes of play.

Q4:

Marseillais Maxime Galin is on fire this evening and scores another three-point shot. The entire team re-mobilizes to not let themselves be overtaken and keep the advantage. After important duels, the score is 62-55, 5 minutes before the end of the match. Steeve Ho You Fat scores a 3 point and allows the team to breathe. Fos flies away to finish in style 71-62 and wins.

We stayed strong together and united, and that’s what paid off. It reflects the work we do and inevitably, it gives confidence.” Maxime Galin was the man of the match with 12 points, 2/2 from 3 points, 4/4 from free throws and 7 rebounds. He has the best evaluation of the match with 21.

For the Fos team: 13/15 on free throws, 22 turnovers, 59% of rebounds.

Next match Friday November 17 at home against Evreux, then two away matches on November 24 at Boulazac and December 1 at St Chamond.
