Former Girona player Joan Blanquera dies aged 86

The historic striker of Santa Coloma de Farners, Joan Blanquera, died today with 86 years old Blanquera stood out at Deportiu, Girona’s subsidiary, from where he moved to the first team and from there he was picked up by Barça, to play for Condal. A serious injury to Indautxu prevented him from ever debuting with the first team. From here his sports career followed the Murcia, Córdoba, Cartagena and levant before returning to Girona with whom he played a total of 35 games (17 goals).

Once retired, he coached and directed the Farners and Olot, among others. Blanquera was part of a football lineage in which he is based brother Joseph he also played for Girona, among others. In addition, it was father of the players Joan (Barça Atlètic, Figueres, Palamós…) and Josep (Sabadell, Hospitalet…).
