Football: Benjamin Mendy files a complaint and demands several million euros from Manchester City

Benjamin Mendy is not done with Manchester City. The left-back, former Citizen, has filed a complaint against his former employer and is demanding several million euros in unpaid wages. The ex-Marseillais accuses the English club of not having paid his remuneration throughout the duration of his troubles with the law for accusations of rape and sexual assault of which he was acquitted, according to information from Sky Sports.

“Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados) represents former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in connection with a multi-million pound claim for unauthorized salary deductions. Manchester City FC did not pay wages to Mr Mendy from September 2021, following Mr Mendy’s indictment for various offenses of which he was subsequently acquitted, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The request will be submitted to an employment tribunal,” confirmed the player’s representative to the English media.

The Frenchman had already approached his former club on this issue last August and demanded more than 11 million euros. This time, Benjamin Mendy is moving up a gear with this complaint filed for “unauthorized salary deductions” with the labor court across the Channel.

As a reminder, Benjamin Mendy was incarcerated at the end of August 2021 and had spent more than four months in pre-trial detention, before being released at the beginning of January 2022, and placed under judicial supervision pending his first trial. On July 14, he was found not guilty of the latest accusations of rape and sexual assault against him in the United Kingdom, a few days before signing for FC Lorient. Since then, the 29-year-old has only played three short matches with the Breton club.
