Financial Struggles at Eendracht Aalst: Youth Activities Suspended Due to Lack of Resources

Hommelles at Eendracht Aalst. The club seems to be experiencing financial problems a few months after the takeover from the new Turkish owners. As a result, the heating, water and gas supply were turned off. “This makes it impossible to guarantee the continuity of youth work,” say the trainers, who temporarily put their activities on hold.

“It is with great regret that we inform you that all youth football activities are suspended with immediate effect and until further notice.”

That is the opening sentence of an email, sent by the youth coordinators, that turned Eendracht Aalst upside down this afternoon.

The trainers stopped the activities because the club had turned off the gas supply without consultation. “The final straw for everyone at Zandberg,” it sounds.

In concrete terms: no hot water and heating in the youth changing rooms. The industrial dryer that dries the competition clothing of around 30 youth teams is also no longer available.

“What’s next!?”, the trainers wonder. “In these circumstances and with such a lack of structure and communication, it is impossible to ensure continuity and continue working.”

Bumblebee lesson with new directors?

It is very remarkable that the East Flemish tradition club may be in dirty papers.

Only 8 weeks ago the new Turkish owners were officially introduced. Ulas Ortakaya and Yüksel Demir took the reins. A takeover that raised many questions among supporters.

“Of course there were many question marks about our vision among the fans,” the Turkish investors responded to TV Oost at the time. “But we were able to answer all their questions.”

The bar was immediately raised: in 5 years Aalst must be in 1A. Heavy investments in (foreign) players followed. But they now also seem to entail unforeseen costs.

The newcomers have reportedly been staying in hotels since the start of the season, but have now been thrown out of their rooms because not a cent has been paid.

We hope that this is a wake-up call for everyone and that the board will urgently sit down with us in a constructive manner.

Trainers Eendracht Aalst

Choices that cannot count on full understanding everywhere.

“We understand that the takeover takes time and the focus is on 1A and the first team,” the trainers write in their email. “However, issues that were raised during the takeover continue to drag on to this day.”

“Over the past 3 months, we have always been constructive and flexible. There were no concrete answers, let alone action, from the board.”

“We hope that this is a wake-up call for everyone and that the board will urgently sit down with us constructively so that we can resume youth work.”

Will there soon be clarity in the impasse?
