FC Bayern Munich will lose marketing director Andreas Jung next summer. The 61-year-old took partner sales at the record champions to a new dimension during his time in office.

At the supervisory board meeting on Monday evening, Jung informed the club that he would no longer be extending his contract, which expires in June 2024. FC Bayern did not provide any information about Jung’s successor; they simply said they would “decide in due course.”

“He has been responsible for our sponsorship since 1996 and during this time has shaped the club into Europe’s leader in marketing. Without this income, we would not have been able to establish ourselves at the top of European football,” said President Herbert Hainer, commenting on the personnel in a club press release.

Sales grew rapidly

Before his involvement at Säbener Straße, the sports scientist graduate was employed by the Association of German Cyclists. In Munich he started at Sport-Werbe GmbH, became head of the sponsoring and events department and director in 2002. He finally joined the board in 2010. According to the club, during his time as sponsoring manager, partner sales grew from around 13 million euros in 1996 to around 246 million euros in the 2022/23 season.

“The 27 years were fantastic”

“The 27 years that I have been able to spend at FC Bayern so far have been fantastic,” Jung is quoted as saying. “FC Bayern has grown enormously in these years, from fewer than a hundred employees to over a thousand, and marketing sales have increased almost 20-fold,” he added and thanked the presidents and supervisory board chairmen during his time.

In addition to his job in Munich, Jung is spokesman for the Marketing and Sponsoring Commission in the DFL league association, president of the Sports Sponsoring Providers Association and sits on the advisory board of Deutsche Sport Marketing GmbH.
