Fantasy Football Gameweek 11: Strikers to Consider and Captains to Pick

There feels like a bit of a fantasy football buzz about strikers going into gameweek 11 with Darwin Nunez and Eddie Nketiah right at the top of the wanted list.

The problem is that a lot of us already own a combination of Erling Haaland, Ollie Watkins and Julian Alvarez and none of those are easy to sell this week.

Alvarez would be the likeliest to make way but Manchester City are at home to Bournemouth on Saturday and he could really punish you if you let him go.

City then embark on a run of games against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa so that might be a better time to make the move but it’s Nunez’s fixture away to Luton that is so tempting this weekend.

I am going to hold off on that temptation partly because I already have Mohamed Salah in my team, but also because it would take me two transfers and cost me four points to switch Nunez in for Alvarez and I don’t feel that’s worth it as I’ll be captaining Haaland anyway.

I think Nunez is a great pick this week though and I’m envious of anyone who owns him.

There’s no need to rush into a move for Nketiah, with Arsenal away to Newcastle in gameweek 11, but if Mikel Arteta confirms that Gabriel Jesus is going to be out for a while, then he will be an excellent addition to our squads at a budget price.

Captaincy

I’ve already told you who my captain is going to be and I think it’s going to be a nervy Saturday afternoon for those managers who’ve decided to go without Erling Haaland for the time being.

Salah or Nunez would be my next best options for the captaincy for Liverpool’s trip to Luton and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo could be a cheeky differential selection at home to West Ham after double-digit hauls in his past two games against Burnley and Chelsea.

Fixtures to target

The Manchester City and Liverpool fixtures are the two obvious ones to target and Kostas Tsimikas is understandably proving a popular signing again in defence this week.

I’d hang on to Gabriel if you own him, despite the frustration of seeing him rested last weekend, but it’s difficult to know whether to start your Arsenal defenders or Newcastle defenders for their game at St James’ Park.

I’m currently starting Fabian Schar over Gabriel in my team based on the fact that Newcastle are at home and Eddie Howe was able to rest almost all his key players for the Carabao Cup win at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

A Crystal Palace defender could be a decent signing this week as they start a run of fixtures against Burnley, Everton, Luton, West Ham and Bournemouth. I’d go for Marc Guehi, who’s £0.4m cheaper than Joachim Andersen, mainly because I wouldn’t expect the Dane to keep up his rate of three attacking returns in his first 10 games this season.

If you’re a Pedro Neto owner, then there’s a good chance to go for a differential signing to replace him as we wait for him to recover from his hamstring injury.

His Wolves team-mate Hwang Hee-chan is still under 5% ownership despite scoring six goals already, although his effectiveness may be reduced by the absence of the Portuguese winger. You’d still fancy Wolves to score at Sheffield United this weekend, and they also play Fulham and Burnley in two of the following four gameweeks.

Cole Palmer has looked really good for Chelsea despite their mixed results. He’s taken their past two penalties, scored them both and is an excellent budget option at just £5m.

Statman Dave mentioned Abdoulaye Doucoure in this week’s Fantasy 606 podcast – he costs £5.5m and is a guaranteed starter in an improving Everton team who are at home to Brighton on Saturday. He poses a real attacking threat driving forward from an advanced midfield position and has three goals and an assist to show for that so far.

To give Chris Sutton his due as well, he said on the podcast last week that he fancied Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a differential pick up front and he promptly went and scored the winner at West Ham, so there’s another one for you.

Gamble of the week

Sticking with your Manchester United players despite the next couple of games being against Fulham and Luton.

You don’t need me to tell you that they have under-performed hugely so far this season but their ownership in the game has dropped accordingly so if they do deliver it could lead to some nice green arrows for you. It’s a big risk though, and not one I’d be taking with so many other Fantasy Premier League assets performing so consistently this season.
