The Euroleague expands its border map and continues taking steps to incorporate a team in Dubai. This was decided almost unanimously by the team owners in the meeting they held this Monday, as Relevo has learned. The participating teams have voted in favor of having a team in the United Arab Emiratesafter having studied the project to expand the competition.

After a long negotiation between the Euroleague and the United Arab Emirates, known for months, it seems An agreement has been reached by which a Dubai basketball team could be incorporated. A project that has been on the table since the fall of 2022 and is increasingly closer to becoming a reality. In principle, it would be for the 2024-25 season, although there are still many steps in the process, such as the signing of contracts.

In fact, one of the first requirements to enter the Euroleague is that of look for a competition for the new team and that will be the Adriatic Leagueas confirmed by the president of the Balkan competition Milija Vojinovic in statements to Mozzart Sport: “Dubai has the desire to play in the ABA. One of the main names that is promoting the Dubai project is that of Djordje Djokovic, brother of the current world tennis number 1. The Serbian has been working for more than a year on the formation of this new franchise and in recent days he has been seen in Kaunas, home of the Euroleague Final Four.

Djokovic is not only one of the thinking heads of the project. He wants his involvement to go further and He could even be the team’s general manager when it becomes a reality.
