Laps of the track both useful for Pirelli to test next season’s tires, but also to offer driving time to young drivers. Some starters were not present, such as Max Verstappen (Red Bull) or Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), in order to leave their seat.
In terms of timing, it was Esteban Ocon (Alpine) who was the fastest, with a time of 1’24″393, which is not very significant. The Frenchman was ahead of Pato O’Ward (McLaren ), Frederik Vesti (Mercedes), Sergio Perez (Red Bull) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). Théo Pourchaire, driving the Alfa Romeo, finished with the 11th fastest time (96 laps), one second behind Ocon.
A total of 25 drivers took to the track and George Russell ended up in the wall following a mechanical failure in his Mercedes after around four hours of running, damaging his car.
