Eritrea Withdraws from 2026 World Cup Qualifiers: CAF and FIFA Confirmation

CAF and FIFA confirm the withdrawal of Eritrea from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, this Friday, November 10. The Red Sea Boys were part of the Atlas Lions group.

FIFA and CAF formalized the withdrawal of the Eritrean Football Federation from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers this Friday, November 10, via an information note.

“Following the withdrawal of Eritrea, Group E of the CAF qualifiers will be contested by the five remaining teams, namely Morocco, Zambia, Congo, Tanzania and Niger,” explains the Confederation of African Football.

All Eritrea matches are now canceled, the rest of the schedule remains unchanged.

CAF had previously specified the schedule for the qualifiers which will begin in November.

Here are the dates of the different days:
November 13-21, 2023: 1st and 2nd days.
June 3-11, 2024: 3rd and 4th days.
March 17-25, 2025: 5th and 6th days.
September 1-9, 2025: 7th and 8th days.
October 6-14, 2025: 9th and 10th days.
November 10-18, 2025: African four-way play-off tournament.
