Munich professional tennis player Peter Gojowczyk has announced his retirement from professional sports. “Today I can proudly say that I have lived my dream of becoming a tennis professional,” said the 34-year-old on Instagram. In his career, Gojowczyk won, among other things, an ATP title in Metz in 2017 and reached the round of 16 of the US Open in 2021. Most recently he failed to qualify at the tournament in Metz. “I played against some of the best players in the world, like Roger and Rafa, which was an incredible experience and honor,” wrote the Bavarian, referring to the duels against former world number one Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The former 39th in the world rankings, who has earned almost four million dollars in prize money, emphasized the values he has developed in his career: independence, discipline and ambition. “Tennis will remain part of my life, but a new and wonderful chapter begins now,” wrote Gojowczyk.
