Double Gold Victory for Italian Judokas at World Veteran Championships

At the World Veteran Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) the athletes Federico Deiana e Raimondo Degortes, of the Olbia Judo Sports Center, gave Italy two gold medals in the M1 and M2 categories. A result that rewards the talent, dedication and hard work of the people of Olbia who have enriched the Italian medal table.

Deiana shone on the second day of the Masters World Championship, taking home the gold in an extremely competitive category. His path to victory was characterized by three intense and compelling matches. After defeating the Kazakh Makhayev in the quarter-finals, he faced a fiery semi-final against the Frenchman Garofoli and in the final he beat the Kazakh Burbassov conquering the top step of the podium.

The last day of the World Masters Championships in Abu Dhabi opened with the gold medalist Mondo Degortes, who took first place thanks to spectacular ippon, imposing himself on his opponents and deservedly earning first place in the category. Excited, Degortes declared: “I dedicate the victory to my daughters and to all those who were close to me to allow me to achieve this result.”

Roberto Borgis e Giuseppe Macrì, head of delegation and coach of Italy respectively, defined the Italian expedition as “absolutely astonishing with 6 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze, and 48 participating athletes, demonstrating that the Masters movement in Italy is solid, vibrant and constantly growing. The unity, energy and strength of our Masters are unparalleled qualities, at times touching, where you are athletes, coaches and, above all, friends”.
