The first official encounter between Dominic Thiem from Lichtenwörth and the French lucky loser Matteo Martineau was evenly matched for a long time in the first set. The Austrian was unable to take advantage of an early break chance. Towards the end of the first round, the former US Open champion improved. With the break to 5:4, the preliminary decision fell in favor of the 30-year-old, who confidently held out the first set.
