Djokovic takes revenge against Rune at the Paris Masters

Paris. The world number one, Novak Djokovic, will face the Russian Andrey Rublev in the semifinals, while in the other bracket the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Grigor Dimitrov.

Djokovic took revenge against the Danish Holger Rune (7), who had defeated him in the last final and whom he now beat 7-5, 6-7 (3/7) and 6-4.

The Serbian will play today for a place in the final against Rublev, number five in the world, who in the last match of the day defeated the Australian Alex de Miñaur (13) 4-6, 6-3 and 6-1.

In the other part of the draw, Dimitrov (17) qualified for this phase for the second time after the one he played in 2019 and will play for the pass against Tsitsipas (6), who in turn, beat the 6-3 and 6-4 Russian Kharen Khachanov (15).

Furthermore, Dimitrov left without the Masters at the end of the season against Hubert Hurkacz (11), whom he beat 6-1, 4-6 and 6-4.

This defeat by Hurkacz puts an end to the Pole’s last qualification chances. Masters which will bring together the eight best players of the season in Turin (Italy) in mid-November.

Thus, the top 8 for the Masters Cup is ready, with the fairly minimal option of changing the order of favorites: Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Rublev, Tsitsipas, Zverev and Rune. In Cancún, Mexico, the American Coco Gauff stayed alive in the WTA Finals tournament, by beating the Czech Marketa Vondrousova in three sets with sets of 5-7, 7-6 (7/4) and 6-3, in a match corresponding to the third day of the Group Chetumal.

In a match that had several interruptions due to rain in the first two rounds, third-seeded Gauff beat seventh-seeded Vondrousova in two hours and 28 minutes.

With this result, the Czech said goodbye to the tournament with three defeats and the American was left with two games won and one lost with the possibility of progressing to the semifinals.
