Djokovic Aims for Davis Cup Triumph After Grand Slam Success

After the Grand Slam titles in Melbourne, Paris and New York as well as the seventh success at the ATP Finals, a triumph in the Davis Cup would make his season the best of his career, as Djokovic told “SportTV” in Turin on Sunday. “It’s not much of a break. But playing for my country is always the greatest privilege and an honor. That always gives me extra motivation and strength,” emphasized the Grand Slam record winner.

The German team, which failed in the quarter-finals last season against eventual winners Canada, missed qualifying for the final round of the best eight teams this year. With a win against Bosnia-Herzegovina in September, the German Tennis Federation’s selection at least secured its stay in the world group and can attack again in 2024.

Djokovic, on the other hand, is aiming for his second national title; the victory with the Serbian team in 2010 is still one of the highlights in his career, which is full of successes. “It is one of my favorite and most beautiful memories on the tennis court that I was able to share this with my friends and colleagues from the national team,” said the world number one.

In the semi-finals there could be a reunion in Malaga with the Italian Jannik Sinner, whom Djokovic only defeated in the final of the ATP Finals on Sunday. The Italians are favorites in their quarter-final against the Netherlands on Thursday (10:00 a.m.). In addition, Australia and the Czech Republic will fight for a place in the semi-finals on Wednesday (4 p.m.). The final takes place on Sunday (4:00 p.m.).
